Our organization recently started deploying new PCs to our users. The old ones, as well as the new ones have Windows 2000 and Office 2000 (installed locally).
In order to insure that our users did not lose any files from their old PCs, we set up adirectory called \OLD_PC\ and copied their entire hard drives from the old PC to the new PC (plenty of disk space). The problem we are running into is that when a user tries to open an Existing Office Document (.xls, .doc, etc…) the Windows installer pops up (Error 1309) and begins to look for a handfull of files that it thinks are located in a directory called C:\winnt\installer\pfiles\ with several other directories under the pfiles directory. Files such as mso7ftp.exe, mso7ftps.exe, msoftpa.exe, owshlp.chm. If I create the directory C:\winnt\installer\pfiles\… and place the files into it that it’s looking for, it completes and never gives an error message again. This is slowly beginning to be a real nuisance. The old PC does not have this directory and worked fine. When we installed Office on the PC image, we chose Install Everything.
And insight would be appreciated.
