W2K Messenger Service won’t start

I can’t understand what is causing the messenger service not to start on a W2k machine. Following is the event error when I try to start the service:

The Messenger Service terminated with service-specific error 2119.

Also, the Event ID is 7024 and Source is Service Control Manager. The computer name is unique on the network and memory seems OK.
