W2K Upgrade

What will happen with all the different hardware driver? What will happen to NT 4.0 after W2K? I noticed in the past that always MS comes out with buggy OS in the first instance and then come out with patches and then comes the real OS in the form of Release 2, Do we need to wait until they come out with R2?
