W2K What does this file do?

I have a customer that received a virus W32/Badtrans.eml. The virus infected C:\WINNT\System32\perflib_Perfdata_ 5a8.dat and the AV App deleted the file. What does this file do and can I replace it from another PC? Or will it hinder the operation ofthe OS? Please help!! It looks to me that it has something to do with Performance Monitoring but I’m still uncertain.
