W95 refuses to detect a mouse

Using a PS2 mouse with serial adapter on an asus VX97 MB. Serial ports are on, equipment has been tested on other machines, Have tried standard mouse drivers, 3D-A4tech-iWheelWorks-7.38 driver and Pmouse driver. Installed new hardware and software in control panel. Nothing works. It just won’t detect the damn thang.
