Web publishing problem

I had a website and I was trying to update the page. After I changed the page with frontpage I no longer be able to see my website, I only see the directory folder and files for that website.
How can I reset my website.
I tried to publsh again. I have the root password but it is popping up and keep asking for user name and password for ftp path. what will be the path? or how to solve?
