web site causes PC freeze

I have a PC win98, 256mb, 40gb and duron 950mhz.
I can surf the web freely with my 56k modem, until I get to one sight on the net, Sanford.com.
Whenever I surf at this web site my PC slows down and finally freezes.
Can Web sights do this (I have rang Sanford and they say there is nothing wrong with the site) or is it a PC problem.
Please help
