What are settings for optimizing RAM?

I’ve just installed 576MB of Ram in my 300mhz running win98. I do a lot of multimedia work with large files and would like to optimize my configuration of RAM (extended?, etc.) and virtual memory. What would the best settings be, why and how do I make them?
