What does DPC’s qeued mean ?

I am currently working on a NT Server 4.0 which has quite some DPC’s qeued in it’s Performance Monitor’s logs. The average is 278.667 and the maximum stands on 1615.584. My question now is :

Does this mean a problem and what would be a average number, a sort of baseline ?
