Where have all the cowboys gone?

by aaron_wurthmann . Updated 25 years, 6 months ago

cowboys = default drive shares (c$, d$, etc)

Background:
Windows 2000 SP1 DC upgraded from Windows NT 4.0 SP6a months ago. Backup Exec 8.5 is used to backup machine all drives and machine state, BE runs on a different machine. The BackupExec Agent is installed. There are two DCs in the present environment, only one is having this issue.

Issue:
Periodically and almost at random the default drive shares disappear, this of course causes BE to fail. Also, and perhaps unrelated or more likely as a result of the above, I am unable to get a SystemState backup of the machine. I have added the default drive shares back in, but of course after awhile they mysteriously disappear again.

Theory:
It possible that the shares disappear some how when the backup fails or as a result of the Back Exec Agent doing something wacky, and that I am looking at this from the wrong angle. I have reinstalled the Agent once or twice, but to no avail. Of course the BE dbase doesn?t have any issues, and of course when I call Tech Supported they?ll in return tell me to call MS which will tell me to call BE tech support which will tell me to call MS which will tell me to call BE tech support and so on and so on?
