why does display stay in standby mode?

I’ve got a brand-new PC with a MSI motherboard,Phoenix BIOS, 256Mb of RAM, a Maxtor HDD, a LG CD-burner, a floppy drive, and a built-in Display Adaptor. When I power it up, the fans run fine, and the power, HDD, CD, and floppy LEDs come on. The CD LED just flashes a couple of times and goes off. The HDD LED goes off after about 5-10 seconds. The floppy LED never goes off. The monitor never comes out of standby mode. I unplugged all drives with no change. I installed a known good Display Adaptor (which I’m using right now), but the monitor still never comes out of standby mode. There are no beep codes.

Anyone got any ideas? Could this be a power supply problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated….
