Why Internet Explorer 6 freezes

For some time my IE freezes. There is no consistency to when. I have to ConALDE to get out. I have “cleaned up” small accessories, used Norton Utilities to scan, defrag, etc., and still, it continues. I even uninstalled it and reinstalled a new one from the MS website. I’m ready to try Netscape.
