why is my notebook not responding

I purchase a dell notebook in january. 600mhz
P111, 96MB RAM, 10 gig hard drive. The OS is windows ME. I did the update. When i try to use the notebook it starts out fine, then it is not responding or it takes at least 5 minutes to get a responds when you right click an icon. Please help .
