I currently have some mobile users, and a few workstations with win2000 o.s. The problem I am having is that the 2000 clients always want to authenticate with a win 2000 server, even though there is a nt4.0 DC that is MUCH closer. I read some Tech Net article about the first time a 2000 client joins a domain, that it ALWAYS wants to authenticate with the server it joined the network with, and that SP2 would fix the problem. It didnt. It said that the client had a cached registry entry. The article suggested to stop the netlogon service on the DC, and to power up the 2000 client, and log on to clear the cached entry. I tried this with no luck. Actually the client couldnt authenticate at all, even there was a DC in the very same room. Does anybody know if a win2000 client can authenticate with a 4.0 DC?
Thanks a lot,
