Win 2k and Athlon compatibility

by billboles . Updated 24 years, 5 months ago

I have 2 computers. Both have 700 MHz Athlon processors, 512 Mb of Ram, and over 6Gb of free disk space. I recently upgraded them from Windows 98 to Windows 2000 Professional.

All was well for about 1 week. My CD burning software (Nero) suddenly became VERY slow. When I go to add jpeg images to the CD, the file list would display items at about 1 file every 3 seconds. With a lot of image files this is very aggravating.

I reinstalled Windows 2000 and the problem went away for about a week and then returned.

I installed Easy CD creator and everything was, again, fine for about one week. Jpegs are once again the issue. Tif images or any other type of file pose no problem; they display immediately.

This is happening onboth of my machines. I have no other software running at the time I am burning the CD. Restarting does not help. I have uninstalled my virus software to see if that made any difference. It didn’t.

I even scoured the AMD website to see if a Bios upgrade was in order to run Windows 2000 but was unable to find one.

Do I have to buy a Pentium? Help!
