win 2k prof refuses IP conn to NT

Win 2k prof laptop randomly refuses IP communication with NT4 file server and NT4 workstation email server. Randomly, ping fails to both servers, but I can map and access a share on the NT server using “net use” during the time the ping fails. Afterawhile, or after a reboot, it communicates with IP correctly. Ideas?
