Win 98 lethargic boot up

I have searched the startup folder, the local machine|software|microsoft|windows|current version|run, runonce, runonceex, etc, keys in the registry for the root cause of my Win 98 ver 4.10.1998,taking such a terribly long time to boot. I have it installed on a compaq deskpro 4000 pII, 192 MG RAM.

It seems to begin to boot and then stalls on the Win 98 screen. (Okay, i know i need to get rid of that screen . . . forgot the book i saw that in, duh!) It stays there for a couple of minutes and then continues to boot. This machine is on a network.

Help!!!???!!!
