I’m looking for some suggestions on sharing an old Laser printer from a Win98 machine on a Win2k setup. The problem is the Laser Printer is a 1993 NEC Slientwriter Superscript 610Plus and drivers are only available for Win95 and 98, nothing for Win2k. If I could find a way for it to work on the Win2k I could forget about the below Win98 setup.
I would like to continue using this printer and use my Win2 Professional PC. As I understand, if a printer is shared out (from a Win98 PC), each PCconnecting to it must install the appropriate drivers, but with Win2k they are not available. Is there a way to send the print over to the Win98 machine and have IT process the job? This printer does not get used much so multiple users and speed are not that much of an issue.
Currently, I save any work done on the Win2k machine into a FAT32 partition on the Win98 machine, then go to it and open/print the file from there.
Any suggestions, either on getting the printer to print directlyfrom Win2k (new drivers) or sharing the printer from the Win98 machine and using 98 drivers for jobs sent through Win2k.
Thanks,
Steve
