Win Explorer “Rename” blanks name

When I rename a file using Windows Explorer, the filename disappears as soon as I select “Rename” from the Edit menu or right mouse click.
System details: Pentium II 400 MHz; 128 RAM;
Using Windows NT 4.0 and Service Pack 4,
ELSA Gloria Graphics Driver Version 5.26.00.204.
