Win Me Restore

I am currently running Win Me and the Restore folder on my C drive is taking over 500MB of space. I wish to disable system restore in order to regain space until I can move certain files onto another drive but don’t know how to do this. I then hope to enable Restore again as I find that it has helped me in the past. Also, is there any way to limit the maximum amount of space that Restore can take on a drive? Please help before I’m spaced out!
