win xp boot problems

After upgrading from windows 2000 pro to windows xp, i cannot boot to windows unless the win xp cd is in the cd-rom drive. The boot sequence is correctly configured in the BIOS. Also the Boot.ini file on C:\ is correct. I have checked everthing else that relates to this on knowledgebase and still no joy. any ideas?
