Win XP crashes

Win XP continues to have problems. I am not sure if it is software conflict or not. I have clean installed several times, loaded basic software -office, macromedia products, norton anitvirus, and quickbooks. It will work fine for a few days and then boom cannot find the system file. Restoring is a pain and I am tired of re-formatting and re-installing software. What’s up with this?
