Win XP freezes

Win XP SP2

since 3 days at startup XP freezes either when “loading my parameters” or after showing the desktop (the hourglass appears in the Taskbar, the arrow when over the desktop). In that later case some programs are not yet loaded (Zone Alarm b.e.). A restart usually resolves the problem. Strange isn’it!
Any suggestions are welcome
