Win XP “Printer Name Invalid”

I have a HP Deskjet 720C connected to a Dell system. The printer is installed and working fine and shows up in the control panel. Yet every time I boot the new hardware found wizard launches and tries to reinstall the printer. After letting the wizard select and install the driver, the final message seen is that the installation failed “Printer Name Invalid”. Every boot up the same thing over and over again. Tried deleting the printer in control panel and letting the Wizard run, same results and error. Used the Add Printer link to add back the printer manually and all is OK until the next boot. What’s going on here?
