Win2K and NumLock

Clients at my site are using IBM T20 Thinkpads that are running Win 2000 Professional. The image that runs on these laptops, when booted up, always activates the number lock.
This has caused problems with clients that are unaware of this and try to enter their network password.
Is there a registry setting or a script that can be edited/made to deactivate the number lock from activating during boot up?
