I have a new Dell Inspiron 8000, with Windows 2000 loaded on it, and Service Pack 2 installed. Before I installed any service packs, and before I installed all my software (including Office 2K, NAV 2001, etc.), the laptop was able to undock on the fly from the Advanced Port Replicator that I bought with it, by either selecting undock from the Start Menu, or by pushing the Undock button on the port replicator. After installing Service Pack 1 or 2, the machine will no longer undock from the port replicator (when I push the undock button or select undock from the Start Menu. The machine does try to go into standby mode so that I can undock, but it then hangs, and will not go into standby, even after waiting for 30 minutes. I have reinstalled to the base operating system twice, and then updated to Service Pack 2 each time, and then installed all my software and the same problem comes back each time. I have also searched the MS Knowledgebase, and there is nothing about this problem there (that I have been able to find). I would like to know how to fix this problem, and if possible, do this without a complete re-install. If you can help, please reply to here or send me an e-mail at waymanm@emh2.campbell.army.mil
