Presently I’m studying for my Win2K MCSE. I have an Adv Server connected to an XP Pro client via ethernet at home. I have a modem in my XP client and a modem in the adv server. Each system is on a seperate phone line. I’m trying to simulate a windows client connecting to a RRAS server. I’ve configured the Routing and Remote Access Snap-in for my adv server. I even have the little green circle with the arrow inside stating RRAS is started and operational. Under “Ports” the internal modem is listed on COM3 (inactive). I’m trying to login from my XP client as “administrator” over the WAN. The dial-in tab for administrator under Users and Computers is set for “allow access”, no Callback is set. My adv server properties under RRAS:
-GeneralTab: Remote Access Server
-Security Tab: Windows Authentication (allow remote sytems to connect without authentication, listed under Authentication Methods)
Accounting Provider: Windows Accounting
-IP Tab: allow IP-based remote access and demand-dial connections, Static address pool of 5 IP addresses
-PPP Tab: LCP extentions and Software compression selected
-Event Logging: Log errors and warnings
The Adv Server is a member of Domain Controllers and RAS and IAS Servers “domain/Users” groups.
The XP client is configured as a dial-up connection under Network Connections.
-Options Tab: Display progress while connecting, and prompt for name and password, certificate,etc boxes checked.
-Secutity Tab: Allow unsecured Password checked.
-Networking Tab: PPP Windows 95/98/NT/2000, Internet selected.
Problem: When I dial from the XP client, the adv Server modem answers and handshakes with the XP client, but the host never responds. The connection times out and I keep getting anerror 721. I’ve tried many different combinations including configuring PAP, MCHAP, etc. Any ideas?
