win2K user profile

Win2k using local profile. Reboot chkdsk finds a corrupt Excel file and fixes. At login user profile is reported corrupted or damaged and user name and pwd loads a temp profile. Everything normal except that all traces of MS Office macros, .pst, arevanished. Default User automatically renamed default.bak but it will not reload on relogin. Advised to eliminate and recreate original user profile (who was also default).
Everything fine, except that MS Office cannot be installed or uninstalled due to invalid transforms. IE5 only partially recognizes Outlook as default mail client. Right click will no longer send to on any office doc. Explorer no longer personalizes.Ideas?
