Win2X and Sony Vaio Notebook

I am having severe difficulty with Sound from my Sony Vaio PCG540 notebook computer. Since installing W2K, I have yet to hear sound within windows. There is sound during bootup, but once the OS boots, nothing. I’ve tried installing and uninstalling the sound card many times with no luck. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
