Win98 Boot error

Ibm 600 laptop with Win98 will not boot properly. Boots from the c:\ with WIN then blue screen stating (summarized)VD etc errors, related to video/graphics. System will operate, has distinct graphic issues.

Will not allow reinstallation of Windows, stating that Windows setting has changed, reboot.

Question, will the installation of Win2000Professional correct or compound this issue?

Is there a DOS command to retrieve the missing or corrupt file?
