Win98 on Omnibook, No CD-Rom

Whilst installing Win98 on HP Omnibook 5700, after the final reboot in setup, Windows looks for hardware drivers on CD but can’t find CD-Rom drive even though it has installled from the CD, only way around is to install real mode drivers from Start up disk by editing config.sys & autoexec.bat. Not happy with this fix as boot speed is compromised. Any clues, Any body. 5700 has CD-rom that is removeable and the floppy fits in same slot or plugs into parallel.
