Win98/Printing Problem

I’m using win98 peer to peer network. Using Davicom 9102A PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter and NetBEUI protocol. I have DSL and a printer hooked to one computer and use a dial up modem on the other. File and print sharing is enabled on both. I can share files on both and print from the computer that does not have the printer attached. The problem is if the computer that the printer is connected to is on the internet it slows down and some times locks up to that it has to be rebooted in order to function again.
My question is what can be done so we can continue to share the printer.
