Windows 2000 connecting to NT domain

I have a laptop that is configured with windows 2000. We are using RAS to connect to the NT Domain. The system authenticates, and can see the shares on the domain controlers only. I have to set up local accounts on other servers for the user of the windows laptop to see shares on these servers. Am I missing something?
