Windows 2000 installs with search drives

I have encountered a problem on many of the Windows 2000 installs with search drives. When the logon script runs, it maps a search drive S1 to sys\public. On most of the windows 2000 installs, particularly laptops, this causes and error that is probably caused by a full search drive path (15 drives). Any ideas?
