Windows 2000 log on option

Is there any means to change the domain setting of a window 2000 without logging on first to the system and change the network setting. As I can recall, in Windows 9x and NT, it is possible to change the domain to which one would like to join with, even before logging in to the computer itself. But in Windows 2000, the domain option is not available in login information where we’re suppose to type the user name and password. It could be due to security reasons, but what if we messed-up with thedomain setting inside the PC and could not change back the setting unless we can log-on locally again to the PC? DOes it means that messing up with the network setting (e.g. domain changes) will be a fatal error and we could never recover the information inside the PC?
