The school network I am working on currently has a Windows 2000 server. It is responsible for file sharing, user profiles, and yes … DHCP routing. It gives all the computers their IP addresses when they boot. We just now got a new DSL connection from a company called Covad. They installed the router and left it up to me to do all the connecting. The problem is that they would not give me the login and password for it – they require the principal to send a signed request to them before they will give us the ability to login to it.
Can I disable the server’s DHCP so that the computers will all get their addresses from the router? Would that be as simple as simply deactivating one and connecting the other? (I haven’t uplinked the hubs toit yet.) Please let me know.
By the way, I have an unanswered question at https://www.techrepublic.com/forumqa/thread_detail.jhtml?thread_id=113845 – if anyone knows how to fix “Internal Service Errors” that don’t give an error message, please help me out.
