Hi, we have an IBM x-series230 server. It is running a FoxPro database, and also used as a file server. During the last 3 weeks we have been having a tremendous slow-down on this server. From the task manager, we notice that the ‘system’ process is using 100% of the resources.
NOTE: we are running McAfee 4.5 and have the current virus definitions. We are confident that there are no virus’s on this server or on our network.
Note2: We have also run a hardware diagnostic on this server andhave not found anything wrong.
Note3: The problem will present itself, even if the server is disconnected from the network and no sessions open, and no files being used.
Note4: We have changed the NIC to eliminate that as a potential problem
Note5: This is not a continious problem. We can go several hours with no problem, then the problem will simply popup. It will happen at any time of the day, and we have not seen any rhyme or reason as to the potential cause.
We are monitoring with Win2000 Performance monitor and we are noticing this…
1. In the task manager, ‘system’ process will use all 100% of the resources
2. In performance monitor, we are narrowing down the different ‘threads’, associated with ‘system’ to find the one(s) which take all the resources.
3. From our research we find the following threads (in order of most egregious at the top)
Thread #37 – Parent ‘system’ (by far the most problematic)
Thread #50 – Parent “system’
Thread #53 – Parent “system’
Thread #54 – Parent “system’
Thread #55 – Parent “system’
Thread #56 – Parent “system’
We have checked technet for the processes of each of these threads. We have not been able to locate any information.
My questions,
1. Do you know of a site, or location where we can better identify these particular threads?
2. Does anyone know of a solution to this problem?
