Windows 2000 Shut Down problem

I know this is going to be one of those easy solutions that I am just missing, but here goes. I have installed W2k on a few computers in my travels and 2 out of 3 (including my own) refuse to shut down, they simply reset!. I have tried all sorts of bios settings and shut down options to no avail. Am I missing something really simple?
