Windows 2000 user profiles

IBM T20 notebook with Windows 2000 using a local profile authenticating to a domain and a local profile logging on to the notebook. A Lucent Orinoco wireless NIC is used when connected to the domain and card is removed when just logged onto the laptop. My problem is this: When my CEO uses the notebook on the plane (local profile logged onto the notebook) then connects to our network using the wirless NIC, his profile is wiped; Windows 2000 thinks he is a new user logging onto the notebook. Batch files are used under a third local account to backup and restore the wiped profile. Microsoft has not provided any useful help.
