Windows 95 will not boot after virus

My sister was deleting unneeded AOL software and after shuting down and rebooting she was no longer able to bring up windows 95. I ran the scandisk and got a message that the “Monkey B” was detected and cleaned. I tried restarting using the “Startup” and “Emergency” disk but was unsuccesful. Her system is a second-hand system acquired upon the death of a loved one so there is no “95” CD to accompany the computer. I own one so I tried using it but because is asking for a system disk and runing in DOS the drive was undetected. Is this system a total lost or is there someway to recover it as well as the information stored on it?
