Windows 98 and Mouse

I have a client who uses a serial mouse. Brought his computer because he wanted to use a USB mouse. When I plugged in the mouse, it was not detected. I checked the BIOS and it enabled. I tried to plug in the mouse again and this time it is detecting the mouse anymore. I keep getting the “Windows did not detect a serial mouse” message. Also, Windows 98 won’t load anymore.
