Windows 98 Installation errors

Does anybody know why the following error codes are occuring after the installation of Windows 98 in a newly formated hard drive:
rundll32-invalid page fault in unknown module at 0000:fff7ce9b; regsvr32 in Kernel32.dll; and runonce invalid pf in unknown at 0000:fff7ce9b. Installation of Office 97 also did not load properly, Explorer continues to fail when opening folders.

Hard drive has been reformatted, scandisk, and even defragmented still no luck with the installation of Window 98 or MS Office 97. Please help!!!
