Windows 98 problem

Ok my problem is on one computer right now. Immdeiately after logging on to the computer, you can open my computer and see all of the local drives and mapped drives. Can also use open in Word and can see them all but if after a little while (time varies) when you try to open my computer or use the file open in word or any office program it will stop responding. That is… my computer will stop responding or word or whatever and it doesn’t show all the drives. you can end the program but theonly way to get out to all drives again is to reboot the computer.

What gives?… I’m in a hurry at the moment so if you need me to spend more time describing the problem, just let me know.
