windows cannot load profile…

After logging on to Windows 2000, I get the message
‘user environmnet’-‘windows cannot load your profile
because it may be corrutped, logging in a temp
profile.’
After looking in ‘Docs & settings\myprofile’ it
is named ‘gerry.bak’, my username is still in the
users & passwords, but not in the sys properties|
user profiles. Can my profile be restored including
the files that were there? Any possible reasons?
