I have searched the web for a solution for this issue for a few days now and have not had any luck so far. I am hoping someone here may have had some experience with something similiar.
In Windows Explorer I can right click on any drive or folder other than the root of “C” and select the properties option without getting a generic “0xc0000005” error. As soon as I right click on the root of “C” I get the infamous microsoft error dialog box appearing telling me that Windows Eplorer has encountered a problem and needs to close and that they are sorry for the inconvenience. When I click on it everything freezes until I do a CRTL+ALT+DEL to end the application.
This system I am working on has had this issue for quite sometime so the owner does not want me to try using prior system restore points because it could go way back in time and I may end up having to restore too many programs and drivers.
I believe it is caused by a driver as I can start the system in safe mode, open Windows Explorer and follow the same process without any errors or system freezes.
Does anyone have any idea on what steps I can take to isolate the offending culprit?
Thanks for any constructive suggestions. 😉
