Windows Login

Whenever I startup my computer the default screen is set to where all the icons are big and there is less screen space (640 x 480). I then have to log in as me and it takes me to the screen I desire, which is 800 x 600. How can I configure it to always remain at the desired screen size? Can I just wipe out any widows login procedures?
