Windows Management Instrumentation fails

Windows Management Instrumentation Software fails due to corrupt or missing Windows Management files on a Win XP Pro system. How do I reinstall these corrupt or missing files without a complete reinstall. In reviewing Restore points, finding a restore point recent enough to be of value where WMI is functional seems unlikely.
