Windows Me

Have a system that was recently loaded with ME, When checking properties on items, system imediately scans the A drive, this takes about 30 secs. any ideas.
Also have one system that when sending a jpg to another system though email, the file shows up as a A0000123.DAT file, If the same file is sent to another system its fine, and also sent to the system that recieved the file is fine, got me stumped. two systems unable to send a file email attatchment to each other but can send and receivefrom others……
