Windows Protection Error

by dwooming . Updated 25 years, 4 months ago

I have recently installed windows 95B on a client machine. It has a 6GB hard drive. There are three partitions each 2047MB each, the maximum allowed by FAT16. In order to do the install, I copied the installation files to the D drive and ran the install from there. The install runs fine, until it gets to the final reboot where windows 95 would start up for the first time. I get the following error:
“Windows Protection Error. You need to restart Your computer.”
I get this on every reboot following this. It will sometimes boot up in safe mode, and once or twice it will boot up normally, but as soon as i restart, it errors out again.

So far I have tried step by step boot skipping the autoexec.bat.
Scanning for errors.
6 different installs.
Check for device conflicts/warnings/errors.
I have an image of 98SE on the E drive that I have restored to the C drive, and that works fine.

Any help Appreciated.
