Windows “Save Setting” during shutdown

I have three computers at my home and they are all networked together and all are running windows 2000. One of the computers when it is shutting down will take upto 1 and a half to go through the save settings part of shutdown. It does not do thisall the time. I have not been able to figure out what is causing this. There is no pattern to it. Such as opening a certain program or another. Can anyone give suggestions on what to try? thanks
